…remember that God is in control. The Bible tells us He’s the King of kings and the Ruler of nations. “The Lord shatters the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.” (Psalm 33:10-11 NLT) His plan for American will stand, no matter the outcome of elections, no matter the consequences of voter decisions.
God’s good plans are not just for the countries that dot Planet Earth but for the individuals who populate the various people groups. “The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do.” (verses 13-14)
He not only understands us, he leads and accomplishes his plan through us. So, don’t forget to vote! But vote with a prayerful heart, asking God for wisdom (James 1:5). Pray for guidance for yourself as well as for our nation. “We depend on the Lord alone to save us. Only he can help us, protecting us like a shield.” (Psalm 33:20 NLT) No matter what we think of the leaders who are voted into office, we’re told in the Bible to honor and respect them (Romans 13:7), which I believe includes praying for them rather than forwarding nasty e-mails and posting negative Facebook cartoons about them.
“What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen for his own.” (verse 12)
