“Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement, to look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; to be spiritual is to be constantly amazed.” – Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

“To be spiritual is to be constantly amazed.” I wrote this quote on the whiteboard by my desk a couple years ago. Though I don’t know who authored the thought, it’s true—when we’re in tune with the Spirit, we’re blown away by the majesty and mystery of our Creator God. “You are the God of miracles and wonders.” (Psalm 77:14a NLT)
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. (Romans 11:33-36 NIV)
“In many ways, God is unfathomable. The more we know him, the more we realize we don’t know him. This is where worship begins. Worship his mystery.” (Changes That Heal by Dr. Henry Cloud)
I’m glad I can’t fit God into parameters of my own making. He would be way too small and boring!
