Wicked Fringe Benefits

ImageI heard a young missionary who was home from her first term on the field say that mission work has “wicked fringe benefits.” Sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, doesn’t it? But I knew what she meant. She’d experienced tough times, but she’d also experienced amazing God moments wherever she went. Plus, after several hectic months that involved learning the ins and outs of the mission agency as well as her duties and also included extensive travel, a generous supporter gifted her with a couple R&R weeks in an exotic locale.

All believers are blessed with awesome fringe benefits. Not only do we get to spend eternity with the Trinity, but here on earth we’re showered with mercy, grace, guidance, protection, redemption, love, provision, wisdom, deliverance, freedom, forgiveness, purity, hope, joy, peace—and so, so much more. “We have this treasure in jars of clay …” (2Corinthians 4:7)

Epiphany – The Magi Visit the King of the Jews

“The astrologers traveled thousands of miles to see the king of the Jews. When they finally found him, they responded with joy, worship and gifts. This is so different from the approach people often take today. We expect God to come looking for us, to explain himself, prove who he is, and give us gifts. But those who are wise still seek and worship Jesus today, not for what they can get, but for who he is.”
